    01 July

The All-Russian Rosbank and Impact Hub Moscow competitive support program for social entrepreneurship and nonprofit organizations (NPOs) called “Start Differently” has become one of the best practices in the world in the field of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 17 UN goals form the global agenda for sustainable development for the period up to 2030 to ensure peace and prosperity of people and the planet.

At the end of 2020, the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs announced the Second Open Call for SDG Good Practices, Success Stories and Lessons Learned in the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda.  The purpose of the call was to highlight examples of best practices, including those that can be implemented by other participants around the world.

About 700 applications were submitted for the competition. The expert group noted 464 best projects contributing to the achievement of the SDGs, 16 of them are from Russia, including Rosbank’s “Start Differently”. All practices are presented in the online database sdgs.un.org.

The goal of the "Start Differently" program is to help social entrepreneurs and nonprofit organizations (NPOs) in creating financially sustainable business models and finding new opportunities for development and growth. During 3 years of work, almost 500 applications have been received from more than 70 regions of Russia. Since 2018, more than 40 social enterprises and NPOs have participated in the acceleration program, which employ people from socially vulnerable groups or create goods and services for them as well as opportunities for socialization. 24 of them became self-sufficient during the training.

"By developing the "Start Differently" program, we strive to create a more inclusive society and to reduce inequality, aim at achieving social and economic integration of socially vulnerable groups. We believe that one of the shortcuts to our goals is to increase the financial stability of entrepreneurial initiatives through education and mentoring. Everything we create in this program is meant to reach four of the 17 SDGs. We thank the experts for their high assessment. We hope that our experience will be useful to many commercial and non-profit organizations in Russia and other countries of the world",  commented Ilya Polyakov, CEO of Rosbank.
